OUR HISTORY

Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist was originally established in Hillsboro, Texas in 1867.  In 1907 the first Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church building was erected under the leadership of Rev. Lofton.  Other previous pastors include Rev. J. W. Williams, Rev. W. O. Bell, Rev. W. A. Banks, Rev. Hopkins, Rev. Carey, Rev. Hill and Rev. Prince.  Under the leadership of Rev. N. W. Moore, the building was torn down and re-built.  Rev. M. J. Lee led us for 12 years.  The Lord then blessed us with another wonderful leader, Rev. J. D. Morris who led the church for 11 years. New members were added and new Deacons were ordained.

On February 1, 1968, our church was destroyed by fire.  However, through God’s grace, the great leadership of Rev. Morris and hard labor on the part of our devoted Deacons, members, and friends, we are now enjoying the blessings of comfort and beauty you see today.

Rev. B. T. Washington joined our Church Family in 1972.  While he was with us, the Lord blessed us with three associate ministers, Rev. Isiah Brown, Rev. Author Lee Marshall, and Rev. Charles Boston, several new Deacons, and an overall increase in membership. The Lord called Rev. Washington home in November of 1986.

In June of 1987, Rev. Isiah Brown was called as Pastor.   Under his leadership two associate ministers and were added, Rev. & Sis. Keith Kelly and Rev. & Sis. Arthur Mozon.  New Deacons and members were also added.

In May of 2006, we were blessed when Rev. Arthur Mozon was called as our Pastor.  Rev. & Sis. Mozon commissioned Mt. Moriah to move outside of the building walls and share God’s word throughout the communities.  Under Rev. Mozon’s leadership, four associate ministers were added, Rev. & Sis. Greg Perkins, Rev. & Sis. Shane Metcalf, Rev. Ruby Jean Morgan and Rev. & Sis. Will Dailey.    In 2017, Associate Min. Metcalf was called to pastor Pleasant Hill Baptist Church of Whitney, Texas.  Our Musicals, Youth Conferences, Vacation Bible School and Community Outreach Ministry are blessed to reach many each year.  Mt Moriah has been blessed to assist many individuals in the community both spiritually and financially.  A Community Park was established, a fellowship gazebo was added to the park, several Safety Fairs and Toy Drives were sponsored, and the church sanctuary was renovated. With God’s grace, we are continuing to grow in membership, spiritual love, unity, community commitment and financial support.
